A philological study on poisoning of Hyoscyami Semen(天仙子)

Abstract

|
Hyoscyami Semen is in use in the Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Hyoscyami Semen for eliminating toxin(解毒), alleviating pain(止痛), alleviating convulsion (止痙), etc. I investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Hyoscyami Semen. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are alkaloids such as hyoscyamine, atropine, scopolamine, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Hyoscyami Semen mainly can cause stimulating symptoms on the nervous system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, and skin, etc. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine take advantage of herbs, such as Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Phaseoli Radiati Semen(綠豆), Lonicerae Flos(金銀花), etc. And the Korean medical doctor should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 3. The representative methods in poisoning treatments in western medicine are washing out the stomach, promotion of vomiting, causing diarrhea, supplies of grape sugar, symptomatic treatment, and taking an antidote for poison from Hyoscyami Semen, etc. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Hyoscyami Semen, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
